Urban soils and vegetation
Urban soils and vegetation link the atmosphere with the groundwater and are heavily disturbed by the input of contaminants (e.g. heavy metals, salts and tire wears). They are affected by temperature increase resulting from climate change, provide groundwater recharge and storage space for stormwater or treated wastewater and through evapotranspiration (green fluxes) positively stimulate the urban micro-climate.
